Barrington Youth & Family Services’ prevention programs are both therapeutic and educational, addressing a wide range of individual, family and social issues. Activities are conducted in a peer group setting and teach socially acceptable, appropriate and productive behavior. Programs are offered to large groups at Barrington High School and middle schools, and small groups of youth and adults. Provides 10-hour court-mandated drug/alcohol education for first-time juvenile offenders. Includes an initial assessment and exit evaluation. Peer Jury Run in conjunction with District 220 and the Barrington Police Department, provides consultation on consequences assigned to middle school youth after conducting an offense. Grief and Loss Support Group Offers counseling and support services for children and parents to address grief or loss due to a death, divorce, separation or other difficult transition. BACOA/BYFS Support Groups Run in conjunction with Barrington Area Council on Aging, provides weekly “Early Stage Memory Loss” and monthly “Graduate” support groups for caregivers and those experiencing memory loss. In-School Support Groups Run in conjunction with District 220, offers support groups at Barrington High School on topics such as children of alcoholic parents, grief and loss, and girl’s self-esteem, and a Rainbows grief and loss program with K-5th graders at Sunny Hill Elementary School.
